Creating Community Solutions to End Domestic Violence

Family violence is the major crime and public health issue in the region and in fact, all over the world.

Coordinating a Community Response

HarborCOV supports the development of coordinated community response strategies because violence is a community issue, whether it occurs on the street, in school, or at home. As active citizens and members of community organizations we know that the problems facing people in our communities are complex. They are often connected to circumstances in the home or neighborhood. For prevention, intervention and support strategies to be effective, they must acknowledge these connections and address problems holistically.

Fortunately, our communities are rich in resourses — individuals, civic organizations, churches, businesses, and government. In partnership we can create effective solutions and end family violence. As we strive to develop more responsive community institutions, we must also empower individuals to attain greater levels of leadership and self-reliance. In this way, people will create a community culture that values mutual respect and peaceful conflict resolution, relying less on traditional institutional interventions.

By working together we can help community members to solve problems and improve lives.
